The Russell Wilson era in Seattle is officially over as the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback was traded to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday.

Wilson’s name had been in the middle of trade rumors for quite sometime prior to Denver making the move for him. He made it no secret that he was keeping his options open as his agent Mark Rodgers shared a list last offseason of teams Wilson would waive his no-trade clause for.

The Broncos weren’t on that list a year ago, but it’s clear that they were added somewhere down the line.

The question on plenty of people’s minds, especially Seahawks fans, is why was Wilson looking for a way out of Seattle?

Greg Olsen Explains Why Russell Wilson Wanted To Be Traded By The Seahawks

Greg Olsen, who spent a season playing with Wilson in Seattle, shared his opinion on the situation. For Olsen, the problem in Seattle has to do with the coaching staff, and not the player personnel.

“I never thought they had a personnel issue,” Olsen told Colin Cowherd on his podcast. “The conversations I would have with the coaches and the amount of pushback and the amount of questions I would get in return, saying ‘I’m not sure if we could do this. I’m not sure if we could protect this.’ I’d sit there scratching my head.”

“It was like we were playing with a JV roster. It was like we were playing with a rookie undrafted quarterback. It was very interesting to me.”

“The ideology there was always defense first, kicking game, punt the ball, field position, forced turnovers, and then hand the ball over to Russ at the end of the game and say, ‘Go be magic.’

Those are certainly intriguing comments from Olsen regarding Seattle’s coaching staff.

Most praise the Seahawks’ staff and the culture Peter Carroll has helped build in Seattle, but Olsen’s comments contradict that ideology a bit.
