Despite the fact that we’ve known for some time now that Aaron Rodgers wants to play for the New York Jets and the Jets want him, we are still waiting for a trade to officially be made.

The delay has reportedly been caused by the two teams disagreeing about the draft picks it will take for the Jets to land Rodgers.

Now it appears there is a rumor going around that might get the Jets to hurry up and get a deal done.

According to FS1’s Craig Carton, the San Francisco 49ers are now preparing to pursue Rodgers if the Jets don’t get a deal done.

Carton said the 49ers would be ready to offer a pair of 3rd-round picks this year and a 1st rounder next year to get a deal done.

There are a few things that just don’t seem right about this rumor.

1st of all, it would be shocking for the Green Bay Packers to trade Aaron Rodgers to the San Francisco 49ers. That would leave them to deal with Rodgers in their conference for as long as he continues to play football.

It also wouldn’t make a ton of sense for the 49ers to trade for Rodgers right now with both Brock Purdy and Trey Lance on their roster.

It makes little sense to not let either of them take the reigns going forward and it would tank either player’s trade value if other teams know the 9ers have to get rid of one of them.

It wouldn’t be surprising to find out this was just a rumor somebody put out there to get the New York Jets to increase their offer to get a deal done before they face competition for Rodgers.
