Purdue center Zach Edey is one of the most controversial players in all of men’s college basketball. The 7-foot-4 center is nearly impossible to officiate, and both gets away with fouls and has clear fouls committed against him that go uncalled.

His incredible size and strength has led to some pretty significant free throw disparities in some of the Boilermakers’ games this year. Clips of plays involving Zach Edey frequently go viral.

On Friday, the top-seeded Purdue Boilermakers took on the fifth-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Midwest Regional Sweet 16 in Detroit, Michigan. The first half was a well-played stretch of basketball, with Purdue taking a 40-36 lead into the break. The discourse, however, is focused on a play involving Zach Edey that somehow did not draw a foul call.

Midway through the first half, Edey was battling for position down low and appeared to foul Anton Watson while going after an offensive rebound.

Somehow, the referees did not call Edey for a foul there, even though it very clearly looks like a foul.

All that being said, there’s no denying just how good of a college basketball player Edey is. After winning National Player of the Year last season, he’s likely to win it again this year. He’s averaging 24.5 points and 12.1 rebounds a game in just over 31 minutes a contest as Purdue looks to win their first national title in their storied history.
