Former UFC Champ Publicly Challenges Chris Jericho To A Fight And The AEW Star Gives A Stellar Reply On Twitter

Last night on AEW Dynamite, the match involving Shaquille O’Neal and Cody Rhodes became official.

Will Vitor Belfort be the next athlete to face off against an All Elite talent?

Eh, probably not, at least not in the type of fight the former UFC champion is looking for.

In a recent interview with South China Morning Post, Belfort said he’d like to fight former AEW World Champion, Chris Jericho.

“With myself being with ONE, and on the same network, I think it’s time for [AEW CEO] Tony Khan to give me Jericho, and I can whip Jericho’s butt. We can really make that fight happen.

I think this is what the audience wants, we can draw a lot of audience for AEW and ONE. It’s time to cross-promote and bring these two together.

ONE has a lot of top athletes, including myself, and we can make some big fights in both. It’s gonna be phenomenal.

Think about me and Chris Jericho doing a ONE fight and going over there, imagine how many fans wanna see that – him making his debut in ONE, and me making my debut in AEW.

He’s ‘The Phenom’ in wrestling. He’s a very tough guy. He’s an animal. I wanna do things that really will shake the market.

I know I’m not a kid anymore, but I wanna create legendary fights – me and Chris Jericho is a legendary thing.”

First off, I’m pretty sure Belfort is talking about the wrong guy.

Don’t get me wrong, Chris Jericho is a great in-ring performer, but he’s definitely not “The Phenom” and he’s far from an “animal” in the ring.

Belfort might have Jericho confused with another Inner Circle member, Jake Hager, or possibly with Brock Lesnar, a guy who’s already ignored his public challenges.

The word of Belfort’s public challenge reached Jericho after the interviewer tweeted the story and tagged the “Demo God.”

In response, Belfort joked that Chris “just made the list,” referring to Jericho’s old catchphrase during his last WWE run.

Jericho let the former UFC light heavyweight champion know where he could be found.

Jericho is likely familiar with Belfort as the pair shared the ring a few months ago when Mike Tyson made his memorable appearance in AEW.
