The year was 1982 and the hot sneaker for dads everywhere was the New Balance 990. Fast-forward to 2018 and the once quintessential dad shoe from the ’80s is being re-released because everything old is new again. New Balance is re-issuing the 990, the “Dad Sneaker” of choice from back in the day. This month, the New Balance 990v4 drops and it is a blast from the past, but gets a modern update.
The New Balance 990v4 has “EST. 1982” embroidered on the heel to pay homage to the history of the iconic dad shoe. But this version of the suede gray-on-gray colored classic kicks with navy details were updated in 1998, 2012, and most recently in 2016. These NBs will cost $100, the same price they did in 1982. If you want these dad shoes you had better stop watching the local news and get off your Lazy Boy because New Balance only made 1,500 of these old school shoes. The New Balance 990v4 goes on sale on April 14 at New Balance locations and other select retailers.
