Sara Blakely, Mark Cuban and Tony Robbins are three people who definitely know what it’s like to succeed, be it in business, finance or just in life. But they didn’t get that way just by lick or happenstance. The developed plans and habits that helped them achieve tremendous success.

Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, is now a billionaire businesswoman, part-owner of the Atlanta Hawks and has been a has judge on Shark Tank.

Mark Cuban, well, we know all about him. The Cubes made his money when his Broadcast.com was acquired by Yahoo! for $5.7 billion in Yahoo! stock in 1999. He is now the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, co-owner of 2929 Entertainment and chairman of AXS TV, and the top shark on Shark Tank, among many other things.

Tony Robbins is another name that’s very familiar to most. Robbins, who made his fame as a motivational speaker and life coach, is the founder of multiple companies which generate earnings of approximately $6 billion in sales annually.

So how did these three entrepreneurs manage to succeed where others fail? Angela Kambouris of Entrepreneur.com shared the four money-making habits they use to do so.

First, all three have “an undeniable commitment to achieve.” In other words, you have to dream big and believe in what you are doing so much that your subconscious mind plows through any uncertainty, in turn making “certainty” the only thing your mind believes.

When you step into your uncertainty, knowing that certainty is a habit you create, then everything shifts. Tony Robbins, CEO whisperer, talks about how progress comes when you tell yourself the truth, you can feel the uncertainty and act anyway. With a clear vision and an unshakeable courage by doing the things your fear, you accept responsibility for yourself and for every aspect of your life.

Second, “add never-ending value and always be the student.” Just getting rich is not the end of the line. There is much to it than that, and as the old cliché says, knowledge is power.

Wealth creators are voracious readers, open their minds to challenge and never stop learning. They align with creative minds as they believe more thought energy is amplified than a single brain.

Tony Robbins describes to build his wealth, achieve success and enjoy a more fulfilling, higher quality life, he reads every day for at least 30 minutes a time. By reading, Tony nourishes his soul and maintains focus on goals while building knowledge, skills and fiscal value.

Third, you must use “visualization of success and execution.” Visualization and the power of thought are how one allows your imagination to turn your ideas into reality, and perhaps a large fortune, such as was the case of Sara Blakely, a strong believer in the power of thought.

When you visualize the wealth you desire, you open yourself up to the possibility of making these outcomes happen. Envisioning the goals creates a space for you to enjoy the emotional benefits of success without having to wait for the reality of it. To achieve success in both finance and life, envisioning goals is crucial. Tony Robbins would run and repeat incantations to himself to stay focused on his goals.

Fourth, “persistence is the key that unlocks the door.” You must have the willpower to bring your make your dream a reality and the willpower to turn that dream into money. Failure is not the end of the line for self-made success stories. It’s quite the opposite in fact. Failure is just another tool to use to improve your plans and goals.

As Aaliyah’s song goes, “If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off, and try again”. Mark Cuban wrote in his book. “It doesn’t matter how many times you almost get it right. No one is going to know or care about your failure and neither should you”.

How you behave in the face of adversity is a key indicator of future success. Mark Cuban failed repeatedly before finally achieving incredible success. Blakely failed her law exam before eventually founding Spanx.

Sara Blakley built in excess a billion-dollar business by using failure as a stepping stone, an undeniable commitment to her vision and persistent to find solutions when others believed there were none. Had Blakely passed her law exam, Spanx would not exist.

Without persistence, especially in the face of failure, you will never achieve your ultimate success.
