There was a sad scene in New York City as one of the worst mass synthetic marijuana overdoses happened on Tuesday morning. There were dozens of people acting like mindless zombies in Brooklyn after they had a bad batch of K2.
At least 33 people were listed in serious condition after taking the dangerous drug, and were taken to the hospital. It all started at around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning when the drug users were strung out on the streets near the Bed-Stuy/Bushwick border.
By Tuesday afternoon there was a man out in public shaking violently and screaming, “It’s burning me!”

Witnesses said that those who took the K2 “collapsed on the sidewalk and subway platforms around Broadway and Myrtle Avenue.” Some were “breathing heavily and vomiting,” while others “sat crumpled on the pavement.”

The drugs are believed to have come from the Big Boy Deli, which a police source called “the sole distributor” of K2 in the area.
“They tried to warn us that this is a bad batch,” said Freddie Smith, who lives in a homeless shelter. “[Since] this last week, the police are coming every day and the people are still smoking. The sad thing is the police know where they’re selling it. But they can’t raid it every day. They raid that store once a month.”

K2 looks like regular marijuana, but it is far more dangerous. It is made from dried plant material then is coated with synthetic cannabinoids.
“Since the chemicals found in K2 vary from packet to packet, and potency can differ even within one packet, the effects of K2 are unpredictable. People who use K2 may feel fine one time, and become extremely sick the next,” the health department warned.
Users can feel “extreme anxiety, confusion, paranoia, hallucinations, rapid heart rate, vomiting, seizures, fainting, kidney failure, and reduced blood supply to the heart,” health officials said.
K2 has street names of Spice, AK-47, Geeked up, Smacked, Green Giant Scooby Snax, Red Giant, Mr. Bad Guy, iBlown and Trippy.
The sale and manufacture of K2 was outlawed in New York City in October.
