The film was created by the Bill Simmons Media Group and hopes to follow the success of the “30 for 30” docs have had. The documentary follows Andre and his humble beginnings in France to his legendary wrestling career to his short time in Hollywood including The Princess Bride. The synopsis of the film is as follows: “Andre the Giant was literally the biggest celebrity in the world. HBO Sports, WWE, and the Bill Simmons Media Group present Andre The Giant, a documentary examining the life and career of one of the most beloved figures in wrestling history.”

“Everyone who ever crossed paths with him has an Andre story—and usually four or five,” Simmons said. “I’m delighted to join forces with [director] Jason Hehir and WWE so we can capture Andre’s amazing story once and for all.” The movie features interviews with WWE CEO Vince McMahon and Hulk Hogan. “He did sports entertainment before there was sports entertainment,” Hogan said of Andre. The film is simply titled Andre the Giant and it premieres April 10 on HBO.
