BEHOLD! The 700-Horsepower 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Is Here To Tear Sh*t Up

A year ago, Ford teased the 2020 Mustang GT500 at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show and on Monday, Ford unveiled the 2020 Mustang GT500 at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. And this glorious machine was well worth the wait.

The 2020 Ford Mustang GT500 is here and it is the most powerful street-legal vehicle that Henry Ford’s motor company has ever produced in its 116-year history. The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will have AT LEAST 700 horsepower. The racecar in a Mustang body gets all that power from a supercharged 5.2-liter cross-plane V8.

Also under that bulging hood is an all-new dual-clutch gearbox from Tremec, which is similar to the one used in the Ford GT supercar, is allegedly capable of shifts in under 100 milliseconds. Ford boasts that the quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is “markedly faster than any manual gearbox.” The gearbox is supposedly so incredible that Ford won’t even offer a manual option.

All of this quick shifting and horsepower provides a lightning-fast ride. Ford claims the GT500 can do a quarter-mile in under 11 seconds and zoom zero to 60 mph in the mid-three second range. Ford calls the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 the “takedown artist,” with its sights set squarely on taking down the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Dodge’s Hellcats.

The brand new Stang features six-piston Brembo calipers with massive 16.5-inch front brakes so that you can stop this chargin’ Pony. The GT500 will also have black and glossy 20-inch wheels, high-performance Michelin tires that were engineered specifically for the car and a carbon fiber driveshaft. The car also comes with an electronic line-lock for ripping burnouts and launch control.

Ford also equipped their high-powered muscle car with a revised suspension with adaptive MagneRide shocks made for taking turns at high velocity. There is a performance package that comes with a huge adjustable carbon fiber rear wing, front splitter, adjustable strut-top mounts, and carbon fiber wheels, but *rear seats not included.

Color options are silver, “Twister Orange Metallic,” “Red Hot Metallic,” and “Grabber Lime.” Inside you’ll find a Sync 3 infotainment setup, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a 4G LTE hotspot, and a rear-view camera.

Pricing has not been announced for the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, but it will be more than the Mustang GT350 that has a price tag of $60,000. The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 hits the streets this fall.
