In promotion of the third season of his hit Prime Video series Reacher, Alan Ritchson sat down for an extensive interview with GQ in which he discussed a variety of topics, including some taboo ones such as the reaction religious people have to his work to disgraced former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz.

Alan Ritchson has certainly never been shy in his interviews, often openly discussing things such as drug use, workout and diet regimes, a suicide attempt, politics, and so on. His latest interview with GQ was certainly no different.

Ritchson, who is a devout Christian and starred in the Christian film Ordinary Angels last year — we actually interviewed Ritchson at the time of the film’s release, we’ll link that below — discussed how fellow Christians have criticized him for acting in “unmarried sex scenes on TV.”

“People have this weird relationship with fictional characters, and sort of equate that to the real human being. I don’t have that problem, making that distinction,” Ritchson explained to GQ.

“I get criticized a lot by Christians who are like, ‘How dare you have an unmarried sex scene on TV and then talk about Jesus?’ I’m sorry—I doubt that’s going to be part of the conversation when I’m standing at the pearly gates!”

Ritchson also hit out at ‘bad dude’ Matt Gaetz, whom he went to high school with and recalled being his “adversary.” Gaetz has been accused of, among other things, paying for relations with a teenager.

“That motherf—–. We are adversaries. It’s shocking to me that the panhandle of Florida continues to vote for somebody—knowing everything we know about him and the promises that he’s made behind closed doors about pardoning certain criminals—he’s just not a good dude!” Ritchson proclaimed.

Season three of Reacher, which released its first three episodes on Thursday, February 20, has opened to a 100% critics score on rotten Tomatoes, which is a slight improvement over the 98% it had in season two and the 92% score its debut season boasted.
