They say that “love is an open door.” But for Johhny Depp and Amber Heard, their relationship involved a weaponized door. Leaked court audiotapes reveal that Amber Heard allegedly smashed Johnny Depp in the face with a door and physically attacked him.

Newly released recordings give credence that Johnny Depp was a domestic abuse victim at the hands of Amber Heard. This week, Depp’s lawyers played audio of Heard admitting that she physically abused Depp.

“I’d just been hit in the head with a fucking corner of the door,” Depp is heard saying in the audio from August of 2016. “And then I stood up, and then you fucking clock me.”

Heard responds by admitting that she purposely attacked him, “I did not do this thing with the door… [but] I did mean to hit you.”

“I am so sorry,” Heard later said. “I can remember hitting you as a response to the door thing. And I’m really sorry about hitting you with the door or hitting your head. I did not mean to.”

After hearing the damning audio in the deposition, Heard repeatedly claims that she did not purposely slam the door in the 56-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor’s head.

“I was trying to escape from a room where Johnny was attacking me,” Heard said. “I was trying to get onto the other side of the door, attempting to close the door, and he was attempting to get in, despite my attempts to try to escape an assault.”

“I made it very clear I was sorry that the door hit him as I went into the room I was attempting to escape into,” the 33-year-old actress said.

Heard said the audio “misrepresents what actually happened, which is him trying to get into a room, which I was trying to get him out of.”

This is just the latest chapter of the bitter divorce trial of the celebrity couple. There is also audio from a two-hour therapy session in 2015 when Heard said she had physically attacked Depp.

“I can’t promise that it will all be perfect,” Heard said in the audio. “I can’t promise you I won’t get physical again. God, I fucking sometimes I get so mad I lose it.”

Depp is suing Heard for $50 million in a defamation lawsuit after she wrote a 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post about being a victim of domestic violence. Although Depp was not named in the article, most assumed the abuser in the article was Depp.

Depp alleges that the article hurt his reputation and caused him to lose his infamous role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a Pirates Of The Caribbean film. Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against Heard in 2019, and the case will be heard this year.

Heard and Depp met on the set of the 2011 movie The Rum Diary, got married in February of 2015, and were divorced less than two years later. Heard filed a restraining order against Depp and claimed that he threw a cellphone at her face. Depp paid Heard a divorce settlement of $7 million, which she donated to charity. Depp has denied physically attacking his ex-wife.

Penelope Cruz and Winona Ryder have given support to Depp with declarations that say that he is not capable of committing domestic abuse.

“I am aware of the violence allegations that have been made publicly for the last few years by Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard,” Ryder wrote in the documents, according to The Blast.

“I do not want to call anyone a liar, but from my experience of Johnny, it is impossible to believe that such horrific allegations are true. I find it extremely upsetting knowing him as I do,” said Winona, who had a four-year relationship with Depp and was engaged before splitting in 1993. “I only know him as a really good, loving, caring guy who is very, very protective of the people that he loves.”

The 45-year-old Penelope Cruz, who has known Depp since he was 19, also defended the actor.

“Many years have passed, and I have not only made 3 movies with him, but I also count on him as a great friend,” Cruz said in her declaration. “I’ve always been impressed by his kindness, his brilliant mind, his talent, and his peculiar sense of humor.”
