AMC, Desperate To Get People Back Into Theaters, Is Charging MORE For ‘The Batman’

AMC Is Charging Movie Goers More Money For 'The Batman' Tickets

  • The Batman is set to be the highest-grossing movie of the year so far.
  • Knowing how popular the film is set to be, AMC will be raising the prices for tickets to see the film.
  • It’s certainly a bold move considering how desperately movie chains need people to start returning to theaters.

In an effort to get people back into their movie theaters, AMC — the largest theater chain in the nation — has decided to raise their prices for what’s set to be one of the most popular films in the last couple of years not named Spider-Man: No Way Home.

That’s right, according to AMC CEO Adam Aron, the behemoth theater will charge $1.50 more for tickets to see The Batman, Warner Bros’ latest reboot of the iconic Gotham City vigilante.

AMC Theatres is charging higher prices for tickets to The Batman, CEO Adam Aron announced Tuesday, as the movie theater chain begins to experiment with so-called variable pricing for different films. The news marks the arrival, at last, of a long-anticipated change in strategy for movie theaters, coming as the business continues to struggle amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Aron noted during an earnings call, ticket prices for The Batman are “slightly higher than the prices… for other movies playing in the same theaters at the same time.” As of this writing, AMC is charging $1.50 more for an adult ticket to the superhero film in Los Angeles, compared to a ticket to another movie at the same time and same venue. ‘The Batman’ Review: The Dark Knight And Gotham City Has Never Felt More Alive

While it may be a slimy business tactic, The Batman is certainly worth the price of admission as the film is already being hailed by fans and critics alike as one of the best comic book films in recent memory, if not all time.

The Batman — which stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Jeffrey Wright as Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham District Attorney Gil Colson — is now playing in select theaters before being widely released on Friday, March 4.
