As we have come to learn over the years, Scotland isn’t the only home of a mysterious creature that lurks in the water. No sir. The Loch Ness Monster is only one of several.
Mexican police have investigated numerous reports of a mysterious “lake monster” in Atizapan de Zaragoza.
An unidentified “serpent-like creature” has also been spotted in a New Orleans lagoon,
And another creature, Sharlie the Lake Monster, has been mystifying locals near the town of McCall, Idaho since the 1920s.
One other place that is the home to a Loch Ness Monster-like creature is located in Nahuel Huapi Lake, Patagonia, Argentina.
That creature, named Nahuelito, has been described as a giant serpent and/or, much like Nessie, a plesiosaur.
The latest sighting of Nahuelito took place recently when a pair of tourists on a kayaking trip claimed to have seen the “Argentine Nessie” in the lake.
“We suddenly noticed something in the lake and started filming it,” said one of the tourists who spotted the creature. “We kept a safe distance as we didn’t know what it was, but it was very big and moving quickly. Soon afterwards, it submerged and we didn’t see it again.”
He added, “I don’t know exactly what it was, I can’t really pinpoint it, but it was huge.”
“Nahuelito’s origins are, like the creature itself, shrouded in mystery,” Juan Relmucao of Atlas Obscura explained in 2023.
“The Tehuelche people, who have lived in the Patagonia wilds for millennia, shared stories of a huge creature spotted swimming beneath the surface of Nahuel Huapi.
“Known as El Cuero to the Tehuelche, the monster was said to resemble a giant stingray with a sucker-like mouth that it used to eat its victims.
“Parents warned their children to stay away from the lakeshore or else El Cuero might drag them beneath the waves as a snack.”
First seen in 1880 by American gold miner Martin Sheffield, but not reported until 1922, has Nahuelito re-emerged once again?
Or is it merely the same creature that pops up now and then in Loch Ness because it actually exists in a parallel universe, allowing it to move through portals deep under the water.
