Arnold Schwarzenegger Reveals How He Hilariously Tricked Sly Stallone Into Making One Of His Worst Movies

In the year 1992, arguably at the height of his powers following a decade of dominance in the 80s, Sylvester Stallone starred in a comedy titled Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. Never heard of it? That’s because the critical and commercial bomb is widely considered to be one of the worst films in his legendary career.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter — Stallone is promoting his role in the new Paramount+ series Tusla King, which premieres on November 13 — the Rocky writer and star suggested that he was tricked into making the movie by his once-rival and longtime friend Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot was supposed to be like Throw Momma From the Train with the mom as this really nasty piece of work. Instead you hire the nicest woman in Hollywood, Estelle Getty, who you wish was your mother. That’s the end of that! Also, I had heard Schwarzenegger was going to do that movie and I said, ‘I’m going to beat him to it.’ I think he set me up,” Stallone said.

The Hollywood Reporter then reached out to the action movie icon for a comment and he gleefully admitted that setting Stallone up is exactly what he had planned:

THR reached out to Schwarzenegger to ask if he could confirm this decades-old rumor that he feigned interest in Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot in hopes of luring his box office competitor into making a huge flop: “It’s 100 percent true,” Schwarzenegger wrote.

“In those days we did all kinds of crazy things to get ahead in our rivalry. Luckily for us and everyone else, today, we root for each other. Thank God, because we sure don’t ever need another Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.”

As Arnold mentions, the pair’s professional rivalry subsided over the years as they aged and the pair would eventually go on to star in The Expendables franchise together.

Tulsa King, which is created and written by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and Boardwalk Empire creator Terrence Winter, premieres on Paramount+ on Sunday, November 13.
