A northwest Atlanta neighborhood has been the site of a viral news story this week after residents claimed they were being overrun by driver-less Waymo vehicles. Dozens of the driver-less Waymo vehicles flooded the neighborhood for hours.
Atlanta is well-known as one of the most crowded traffic cities in America. I-85 alone sees over 2 million drivers daily in the city. But these are robot cars are driving themselves, and not on the highway. They’re also not appearing to pick up passengers and instead are just driving around in circles.
Driver-less Waymo Vehicles Terrorize Atlanta Neighborhood
Clips of the Waymo vehicles have gone viral. Residents began noticing them early in the morning, driving up and down the street(s), doing circles around the cul-de-sac.
In total, dozens of the driver-less Waymos were spotted. One resident told Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach “It’s almost every little cul-de-sac in our area, so I think it’s a problem.” Another said “I think yesterday morning, we had 50 cars that came through between 6 and 7.”
Atlanta’s WSB-TV investigated the phenomenon and gathered clips from residents:
Is it possible there is something in the software routing the cars around this cul-de-sac early in the mornings when passengers are few and far between? That would seem to be the most likely scenario but if that’s the case then Waymho will have some explaining to do.
Not an isolated incident

While many believe the driver-less Waymo taxis are the future of transportation, they are not without their issues. Just last month in Nashville one of the driver-less vehicles took a turn into oncoming traffic and tourists. In Austin, Texas back in March a Waymo blocked an ambulance from responding to a mass shooting at an Austin bar. In January, one of the cars took a passenger for a ride on busy train tracks causing them to bail in fear of their safety.
And those are just a few of the many incidents reported on… So what do you think, is Waymo still the future? Let me know what you think down in the new BroBible comments section.
