Late last year, as he was giving fans an update on the creation of the DCU, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn casually mentioned that Ben Affleck — who played Batman in the previous iteration of the franchise, the DCEU — was interested in directing a movie for them.
Now, according to a recent report from Above The Line, that movie is the DCU’s take on Batman, The Brave and the Bold, which feels like an obvious choice given his history with the character. Should DC Studios land Affleck, that’d be the second high-profile filmmaker to join the franchise, as all signs point to Logan and Ford v. Ferrari filmmaker James Mangold helming Swamp Thing.

Affleck also has experience developing a Batman film, as The Batman was set to be his project prior to the breakdown of the DCEU, which ultimately saw him walk away from the project first as a director and then as an actor.

Luckily for fans of his work, it won’t be much longer until an Affleck film hits theaters, as his new movie Air — which he directed and stars in alongside Matt Damon, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman, Chris Tucker, and more — hits theaters on April 5.
Air — which sees the 50-year-old Oscar winner playing billionaire Nike founder Phil Knight — is Affleck’s first time back in the director’s chair since 2016’s Live By Night. Prior to Live By Night, Affleck directed Argo (which won the Academy Award for Best Picture), The Town, and Gone Baby Gone.
Later this year, Affleck is also set to down the iconic Dark Knight cape and cowl for one final time, as he’s starring alongside Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle, and Michael Shannon in the shockingly excellent-looking The Flash, which hits theaters on June 16.
Air and The Flash aren’t all Affleck has cooking this year, though, as he’s also set to star in the Robert Rodriguez-directed thriller Hypnotic.
