People have been telling stories about wild, human-like creatures for pretty much as long as people have been telling stories. In American culture, that creature is Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch.
Reported sightings, theories, and alleged evidence of Bigfoot have existed for years, though there still hasn’t been indisputable proof.
Now, online reports claim that AI is now taking a stab at solving the mystery.
In a recent claim that’s gaining traction online, creators say Google’s DeepMind conducted an analysis of alleged Bigfoot sightings to determine whether any patterns exist.
A TikTok video with over 63,500 views, reposted by the account @irish.demon5, explains how the alleged analysis was conducted and its “unbelievable” results.
The original video appears to have been posted by the YouTube channel “AI Discovery.” It is titled, “Google’s AI Was Fed Every Bigfoot Sighting Since 1958 — The Pattern It Found Is Unexplainable.”
What Did Google’s DeepMind Reportedly Uncover About Bigfoot?
AI Discovery claims that in 2024, researchers at Google’s DeepMind went through 10,000 pieces of Bigfoot evidence from the United States and Canada spanning 66 years.
“Each sighting report was coded with over 150 data points,” the narrator says. “Including geographic coordinates, date and time, weather conditions,
terrain type, proximity to water sources, witness demographics, creature behavior described, physical characteristics reported, evidence collected, and dozens of other variables that might reveal patterns invisible to human analysis.”
According to the video, Google designed the AI tool specifically for this purpose. The company allegedly used machine learning to detect patterns without having any preconceptions about whether Bigfoot is a real creature.
The study’s first finding, the narrator explains, is that people mostly reported sightings in 150 geographic hot zones, many of which are in the Pacific Northwest.
Additionally, it claims that these “hot zones” correspond with areas mentioned in the controversial “Missing 411” book series by David Paulides.
In the self-published book series, Paulides investigates unusual disappearances in national parks, forests, and remote areas.
Did The AI Actually Study Bigfoot Sightings?
There are no reports that this study ever took place. DeepMind did not announce, publish, or participate in any Bigfoot sighting analysis.
There are some public Bigfoot databases available online, mostly maintained by Bigfoot or Sasquatch enthusiasts who strongly believe in its existence.
Additionally, there is a smaller-scale study that claims to have analyzed sightings by season, U.S. state, weather conditions, and more. According to this data, the 10 states with the most sightings are Washington, Oregon, California, Texas, Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Florida.
Coincidentally, some of these areas are also home to U.S. national parks and vast wilderness areas. Here, tourists may go missing for reasons such as getting disoriented, suffering an injury, or being caught in bad weather, according to the National Park Service.
Finally, the claims in the book series that the creator references in the video, Missing 411, are widely disputed. Its critics argue that many of the cases the author investigated can be explained by other, less mysterious pieces of context often missing in Paulides’ retelling.
Did People Believe It?
In the comments section, viewers doubted that the map suggested anything supernatural.
“Sighting data actually just matches population rates,” one user wrote.
“Map looks a lot like the cave systems in the US,” said another.
A third commenter referenced a popular quote. “Every time I see a Bigfoot post, I think of Mitch Hedberg’s quote: I think Bigfoot is blurry, that’s the problem,” they wrote. “It’s not the photographer’s fault. Bigfoot is blurry, and that’s extra scary to me. There’s a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run, he’s fuzzy, get out of here.”
