It’s been several years since blink-182 has released any new music. Even though they’ve put on concerts and played the hits, diehard fans have been clamoring for new music, or so I’m told. By the way, that’s pronounced ‘blink one-eighty-two’ for all you English and Australian readers out there, not ‘one eight two’ as it’s apparently been mistakenly called outside of the USA.

Blink-182 released a new single last night titled ‘Blame It On My Youth’ which is catchy. I’m of the age where I saw Blink-182 at Warped Tour back in high school/college, would catch them on MTV with Carson Daly, and was a pretty big fan of ‘Dude Ranch’ and ‘Enema of the State’ back in the day.

This new song, I’d say that it’s good, catchy for sure, but it also sounds like everything else on Pop Music radio at the moment. You could’ve played this track for me without telling me it was Blink-182 and I would’ve just thought it was some random band blowing up on the radio. I’m not trying to disparage this song at all, it’ll be played everywhere all summer long. I just don’t really hear that Blink-182 sound in it like I expected:

This release comes just days after Blink-182 announced a nationwide tour this Summer with Lil Wayne. Unrelated to the tour, but this is a fun side note about the song:

I guess this tweet does a much better job at summing up what I was thinking above without having the words to express it:

It’s good but it just sounds like every other formulaic song out there at the moment and doesn’t stand out to me in any way. I won’t change the radio when it comes on but it’s not like I’ll be seeking out this song to play on repeat and that’ll be because radio stations nationwide will be playing it nonstop.
