The first trailer for Clayface has been released by DC Studios. Clayface is the third film in the DCU following Superman and Supergirl, but looks like nothing that’s ever been previously done in the comic book genre.

Clayface, directed by Speak No Evil filmmaker James Watkins, follows the Matt Hagen iteration of the character. Hagen, an up-and-coming actor, has face is disfigured by a gangster and, a last resort, turns to a scientist who transforms his body into clay.

DC Studios has released the first trailer for Clayface, which looks set to be a full-blown body horror movie

Clayface unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.”

The film looks like it’ll be fully leaning into the body horror genre, as the trailer boast a explicitly dark tone alongside haunting images of shape-shifting faces, hands morphing into weapons, and Clayface’s signature spiked mace. Despite Clayface famously being a Batman villain, there has been no indication that the DCU version of the Dark Knight, which will be different from Robert Pattinson’s, will debut in the film.

Directed by Watkins from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, the film stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, Naomi Ackie as the scientist who creates him, and Max Minghella as a Gotham City detective. Flanagan originated the project and wrote the script before scheduling conflicts forced him off — he’s currently in production of a reboot of The Exorcist starring Scarlett Johansson.

After footage was showcased at CinemaCon earlier this month, the project has been compared to David Cronenberg’s The Fly — a formative entry in the body horror genre.

In addition to Harries, Ackie and Minghella, Clayface — which will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, October 23, 2026 — also stars Eddie Marsan and David Dencik. Next up for the DCU franchise will be Supergirl, which stars Milly Alcock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa, and will hit theaters on June 26.
