Police were called to Britney Spears’ home after she went viral for performing a gyrating, awkward-looking dance, flailing around with two big butcher’s knives in her hands this week.
Page Six reports that the the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office performed a wellness check on Spears on Wednesday after being contacted by someone close to the 41 year-old pop star.
“Somebody close to Britney had seen the video posted on social media, where she’s dancing and twirling with knives in her hands and they were really concerned for her mental well-being,” said Captain Dean Worthy of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Worthy added that it wasn’t just a fan who was concerned (because there was no shortage of those), but rather someone who police said actually knows Spears.
“We would normally not respond to fans calling in about a celebrity unless we actually believed that there is a credible threat,” he said. “However, we vetted this individual through LAPD … and we determined this is someone who knows Britney on a personal basis.”
The initial call was made to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Systemwide Mental Assessment Response Team.
Worthy also reported that the Sheriff’s Office was only allowed to speak to security via an intercom at the house, but “they didn’t want to let the officer in to see her physically.”
That, plus a discussion with Spears’ attorney, led them to believe Spears was okay.
“There’s no criminal activity so we’re not going to force ourselves inside the home if there is no crime,” Worthy said. “Being a danger to oneself isn’t a crime. I think we did our due diligence by going and responding and speaking to two people who are close with her who satisfactorily told us she’s fine.”
In another video posted to Instagram, Britney Spears appeared wild eyed in her bathroom with what appeared to be a fresh scar from a cut on her arm in a video she captioned, “Playing in the tub.”
Then on Wednesday, Spears posted two more bizarre dance videos, the second if which showed the singer with a bandage on her right arm and what appears to be a cut on her right leg that were not there in the two prior videos.
She later posted yet another dance video with the caption, “Lighten up about the knives I’m copying Shakira !!!”
Spears was referring to Shakira’s performance at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
On Thursday, Britney was back on Instagram with another video from her bathroom with the caption, “Sweater weather … I be naked in the tub !!!”
Yep, everything appears to be just fine at the Spears’ home.
