After more than 27 years and an untold number of conspiracy theories, Las Vegas police finally made an arrest in the gruesome murder of rap legend Tupac Shakur.

Duane “Keefe D” Davis was arrested by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department while he was on a walk in the neighborhood of his Henderson, Nevada home.

TMZ now reports that, during grand jury testimony, retired Las Vegas Metro Police Detective Clifford Mugg claimed Tupac Shakur’s murder was related to the killing of East Coast rapper Biggie Smalls.

Mugg, one of the investigators in the Tupac case, testified people “associated with both murders were involved,” adding that the “theory was accurate that they were related.”

He didn’t reveal the theory but admitted there were different assailants in each attack, giving Davis a pass on the Biggie murder.

Mugg testified that the murders were not “perpetrated by the same individuals.”

He also stated that Davis granting so many interviews over the years, talking openly about his alleged involvement in Tupac’s murder, ultimately led to his arrest.

Investigators had previously raided Davis’ home in July. In that raid, according to Court TV, they collected multiple computers, a cellphone and hard drive, a Vibe magazine that featured Shakur, several .40-caliber bullets, two ‘tubs containing photographs’ and a copy of Davis’ memoir.

“They didn’t make a scene like last time,” Davis said while sitting in a patrol car with a Las Vegas police officer, Court TV reported. “They had three SWAT units. They had a bunch of walkie-talkies in the house behind me. I saw people peeping over the gate. They were around my whole house going this is the Las Vegas Metropolitan SWAT team. They didn’t do that this time. I was walking down the street and a dude just jumped out yelling ‘Don’t move [expletive], the apprehension team or something.”

Davis’ nephew Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson and Deandrae “Dre” Smith, both deceased, were prime suspects for being the one who fired the shots that actually killed Shakur.

In his book, Compton Street Legend, Davis admitted he slipped the gun used to kill Tupac into the backseat of the Cadillac that was used in the shooting.

“It’s those events that have given Las Vegas the ammunition and the leverage to move forward,” Greg Kading, a retired Los Angeles police detective, told Court TV. “Prior to Keefe D’s public declarations, the cases were unprosecutable as they stood.”

Under Nevada law, people who allegedly aided in a crime can be charged for it.
