It’s been a little more than 27 years since Tupac Shakur was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas at the age of 25, but no one has ever gotten to the bottom of the cold case concerning the murder of one of the most famous rappers on the planet at the time. However, that may have changed now that police have reportedly arrested someone in connection to the crime.

There are plenty of theories concerning the person (or people) who orchestrated the slaying of the man most people know simply as “2Pac” (as well as plenty of conspiracy theorists who’d tell you he’s actually still alive).

There’s a ton of evidence that suggests the crime was carried out by Orlando Anderson, a member of the South Side Compton Crips who got into a physical altercation with Tupac and his crew at a casino in Sin City shortly before the killing occurred.

Anderson was shot and killed in a gang dispute in 1998, but a few years ago, his uncle (and fellow Crip) Duane “Keefe D” Davis came forward to claim he was in the car with his nephew, Terrence “T-Brown” Brown, and DeAndre “Dre” Smith when one of the three men (he declined to specify who) pulled the trigger and ended Shakur’s life by spraying his BMW with bullets from a Glock 22.

According to Bloomberg, Davis—who went public with those comments after being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2018—was arrested by police in Las Vegas on Friday in connection with Tupac’s murder, a development that appears to stem from the raid that occurred over the summer that suggested authorities were exploring news leads in the unsolved homicide.

The Associated Press reports Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo said the 60-year-old Davis (who has been denied bail) had been indicted by a grand jury that determined there was evidence to show he was the “on-ground, on-site commander” who ultimately “ordered the death” of the rapper, and it’s safe to assume more details will come out as the case continues to move through the legal system.
