‘Fast X’ Director Justin Lin Reportedly Quit Because Of Vin Diesel: ‘Late, Out Of Shape, Doesn’t Know His Lines’

'Fast X' Director Justin Lin Reportedly Quit Because Of Vin Diesel

Instagram

  • Fast x director Justin Lin quit the film just a few weeks into production.
  • The decision came after Vin Diesel posted an incredibly awkward video of the pair discussing the movie.
  • A new report indicates that Diesel’s behavior on set is what caused Lin to quit.

As someone who’s spent the last decade or so bemoaning the relevance of the utterly talentless Vin Diesel, this report from the New York Daily News pleases me quite a bit. Big “Thanos delivers his evil monologue on Titan in Infinity War” energy from your boy on this one.

My main issue with Diesel is that his ego and perception of himself are completely disproportionate to his actual acting ability or box office credibility. You see, Diesel seems to think that *he’s* the reason the Fast & Furious franchise become a two-decades-old, billion-dollar grossing machine when the reality is that he just happened to fall ass-backward into it. Want to see a true representation of Diesel’s star power? Check out the box office returns and reviews for Bloodshot. Don’t remember Bloodshot? It came out two years ago. Other than Corona King Dom Toretto, his most notable role in the last decade is being the voice of a talking tree that says exactly three words (except that one time he said “We” instead of “I”).

The truth is that after making two decent, unremarkable Fast & Furious movies, the franchise was softly rebooted with Tokyo Drift and then again reshaped with the introduction of The Rock in Fast Five. Then, and only then, did the Fast franchise become the box-office dominator we know today. That, also, is the reason why Diesel is so obviously threatened by The Rock, because, in his heart of hearts, he knows that it’s Dwayne Johnson who saved the franchise — not him. It’s why he’s publically begged The Rock to return for the final chapter.

“Out of shape” Vin Diesel reportedly showed up to Fast X set late and didn’t know his lines

Hopefully, this latest report from the New York Daily News — which alleges that Diesel’s behavior is the reason that director Justin Lin quit the film in the 11th hour (and turned down tens of millions of dollars in the process) — is the beginning of the tide change that will see the general culture finally awaken to Diesel’s true nature, which is, basically, that he just sucks.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. Lin’s giving up $10 or $20 million [as director],” a veteran producer not involved with Fast & Furious told the Daily News. According to the source, “Diesel shows up late to the set. He doesn’t know his lines. And he shows up out of shape.”

“No one is dissing Vin Diesel on the record, but everyone knows,” said my source.

This report echoes comments that The Rock appeared to make about Diesel a few years back when he quit the Fast franchise, saying on Instagram that:

“Some conduct themselves as stand-up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chickenshit to do anything about it anyway. Candyasses.”

At this time, Fast X — which added Jason Momoa and Brie Larson to its cast — is scheduled to hit theaters on May 19, 2023. Given the directorial-related delays, though, odds are that the release date will be bumped back.
