The Boys star Erin Moriarty announced on Instagram that she’s had to drop out of appearing at Fan Expo Denver. While Moriarty did not provide a reason why, she did say it was “absolutely necessary.”

Erin Moriarty was in the news earlier this week in which she published an emotional op-ed about her battle with the autoimmune condition Graves’ Disease in TIME. Moriarty has since been treated for the disease, so it’s unclear whether her dropping out of Fan Expo Denver was due to that, scheduling conflicts or other personal reasons.

The Boys star Erin Moriarty said it was “absolutely necessary” for her to drop out of scheduled Fan Expo Denver appearance

At this time, Moriarty is attached to just one upcoming project: True Haunting (or The Haunting in Wicker Park — while they’re the same project, IMDB and Wikipedia have it under different titles) which is based on Edwin F. Becker’s book of the same name and was directed by Gary Fleder.

That film, however, was announced in 2022 and has already completed filming, so unless it’s conducting years-later reshoots, it’s unlikely Moriarty is missing the event due to schedule conflicts.

“I am gutted to say that I will not be able to attend @fanexpodenver this weekend,” wrote Moriarty on her Instagram Story. “This is not a decision I make lightly; I would not be missing this unless it was absolutely necessary. I love you guys, and I’m truly sorry to disappoint anyone who was planning to come see me.”

In her TIME piece, Moriarty said that her battle with Graves’ — which reached its peak while she was filming the fifth and final season of The Boys — “nearly destroyed her.”

“At the very moment I was losing trust in my own body, I was publicly portraying a character defined by her resilience and endurance. On The Boys, a hit television show that uses the superhero genre to satirize celebrity, politics, and power, I play Annie January, also known as Starlight. She is one of the show’s only earnestly good superheroes. Playing Annie has meant more to me than I can ever articulate. But while filming our precious final season in 2025, I lost her. I lost myself,” Moriarty wrote.

Moriarty’s most prominent role, as Annie January/Starlight, came to a close earlier this month when The Boys aired its series finale.
