Acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann, director of films such as  The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, and Collateral, is back with his latest project Ferrari, a biopic about the legendary Enzo Ferrari.

In the lead role of Ferrari is Academy Award-nominated Adam Driver. In addition to Driver, Oscar winner Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Gabriel Leone, Sarah Gadon, Jack O’Connell, Patrick Dempsey, and more.

Here is the official synopsis for Ferrari, via Neon Pictures:

It is the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle of Forumla 1, ex-racer Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy threates the factory he and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier. Their volatile marriage has been battered by the loss of their son, Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to acknowledge his son Piero with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, his drivers’ passion to win pushes them to the edge as they launch into the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mile Miglia.

Ferrari is actually Mann’s first film since 2015’s Blackhat, which starred Chris Hemsworth. Most recently, Mann published Heat 2, a novel that serves as both a prequel and a sequel to his beloved 1995 film Heat. According to Mann, discussions about turning the project into a film have been had, with him even talking with Adam Driver about taking over Robert De Niro’s role of Neil McCauley

As for Driver, in addition to Ferrari, he’s also set to star in Megalopolis, the $150 million passion project from legendary The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola that’s set to hit theaters next year.

Prior to Ferrari, Driver most recently starred in the action bomb 65 earlier this year and the Netflix film White Noise in 2022.

Ferrari will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Christmas Day, which is Monday, December 25.
