The Finnish Air Force grounded four cadet pilots for drawing inappropriate shapes in the sky during a recent training flight. Take a wild guess at what shapes they drew.
On April 13, after taking off from Tikkakoski, the cadets in the Air Force Reserve Officer Pilot Course were participating in training exercises. As they did so, Flightradar tracking service revealed that they were engaging in some unusual flight patterns.
According to Finnish tabloid Iltalehti, two Grob G 115 aircraft from the Finnish defense forces strayed from their flight path in Central Finland and created new routes that resembled male genitalia.
An Air Force spokesperson acknowledged the pilots’ misbehavior
“This unfortunate event came to the attention of the Air Force on Monday,” the military branch confirmed to Iltalehti by e-mail. The Air Force further stated that it had already disciplined the pilots in question and that it had started an immediate investigation.
An Air Force spokesperson also told YLE via email on Monday that the flights intended for the pilots to practice turns within a designated training area.
“The aircraft remained in the training area assigned to the flight mission and performed the exercises given in the flight mission assignment,” the email read. The spokesperson went on to say that there was no risk to other air traffic from the flights.
And while the spokesperson would not comment further on any sanctions the cadets received, they did add, “The Air Force requires soldiers to follow good manners and rules of conduct, and if these are deviated from, it will be responded to in an appropriate manner.”
