GoldenEye 007 – one of the greatest video games of all-time – could very well be making a comeback.

There has been talk about a new GoldenEye 007 video game for years, but a leak shows that a remaster of the classic FPS could actually be happening – and it could be very soon.

Video game industry insider @Wario64 on Twitter found achievements for Goldeneye 007 on Xbox servers this past Sunday, and shared them on Twitter.

True Achievements reported, “Recently, the achievements were spotted on the Xbox website along with stat tracking across six different categories, but digging a little deeper, we’ve noticed that Rare has also updated several achievement names and added some new achievement art.”

There were rumors in January and in March that there would be a GoldenEye 007 remaster being released. Those rumors were also sparked by achievements that surfaced on the Microsoft Store.

“When comparing the achievement list that we first scanned in back in January to the list that was discovered over on Xbox.com, we can see that Rare has updated the names of 11 different achievements,” according to True Achievements. “Some are quite simple changes while others have been altered completely. One achievement that referenced Dr. Doak, a double agent who works in the Arkangelsk chemical weapons facility that was named after original GoldenEye 007 developer David Doak, has been changed removing the reference.”

Developer Rare has been interested in recreating the classic James Bond video game for over a decade, but licensing troubles put a kibosh on the project.

In 2016, Xbox head Phil Spencer said, “GoldenEye has always been a rights issue, not a ‘getting code to run’ issue.”

GoldenEye 007 was released for the N64 video game console on August 25, 1997, so this year marks 25 years since it changed gaming forever.

It is possible that the GoldenEye 007 remaster could be unveiled at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase – which kicks off on June 12.
