Kit Harrington Says There’s A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Episode That Was Never Released

Actor Kit Harrington plays Jon Snow on HBO’s Game of Thrones. In a recent interview with the UK’s Guardian, Kit talked about how there’s a Game of Thrones episode out there which the public has never seen because it was never aired or released. If Kit has his way, it will stay that way.

The never-before-seen Game of Thrones episode is actually the very first pilot filmed. According to Kit, there were a lot of problems with the episode but he also admits that he’s never even seen the episode himself. However, the show’s creators DB Weiss and David Benioff will often torture Kit Harrington by text messaging him screenshots of the never-released episode and threaten to release it to the public. I guess it’s that bad.

Here’s what Kit Harrington had to say in his interview with the Guardian about the Game of Thrones episode that virtually nobody has ever seen:

Game of Thrones’ first incarnation wasn’t promising, however, and the pilot turned out to be a dud. “They made a lot of mistakes. It didn’t look right, didn’t feel right, had nothing different about it.” In it, the nascent Jon Snow was wearing a wig, was clean-shaven and made use of the baby face Harington hides under his beard. He claims that hardly anyone has seen that pilot, not even him, but that the show’s creators, DB Weiss and David Benioff, have a copy they use to keep him in line. “They say, if I ever piss them off too much, they’ll release it on YouTube. Every now and then, they send me a screengrab, just as a threat.” (via)

After that debacle, DB Weiss and David Benioff went back to the drawing board and reworked the show. They created the dark and twisted world of Westeros that we now know and love, for better or worse. The show’s been the most successful Fantasy series in TV history by almost every metric imaginable, and the final season is all but certain to set new records for HBO.

Even though this never before seen episode sounds like the love child of a giant douche and turd sandwich, I’d still like to see it. I’m fairly certain that at some point, years after Game of Thrones has wrapped its final season, HBO will ‘leak’ or screen the never seen pilot to drum up some attention for DVD sales or a spinoff show, or some shit like that. The fact that this episode exists, and the show’s creators have easy access to it has me feeling confident that the world will see it one day. Even if it’s the worst episode of TV ever created there’s no good reason for HBO to not release it at some point, it’s not like it would ruin the Game of Thrones legacy in any way at all.
