Birthday parties are a time for celebration. But for one California woman, the cake-cutting kind of ruined their party mood. In a viral video, Justine (@justinelovesushi) shared how a rooftop bar and restaurant owned by L’Ermitage Beverly Hills charged her a whopping $110 to cut the cake.
The video, which has garnered 400,000 views on TikTok, began with Justine showing the sliced chocolate cake to the camera.
“We had this cake cut in a rooftop bar in LA; they cut the cake for us, and do you wanna guess how much it cost?” she asks.
Justine then held the receipt close to the camera and identified the part where the service of cake cutting was listed as costing $110.
She went on to explain how she asked them to cut the cake. They said yes, “and then boom, $110.”
“Like, at least tell us,” Justine said. Eagle-eyed viewers worked out that the receipt was from L’Ermitage Beverly Hills. In a partially cut moment from the video, the video caption appears to tell people they should not go to Poza. This suggests that the establishment Justine was referring to was the Poza rooftop bar and restaurant in LA. This is owned by L’Ermitage Beverly Hills.

How Did Commenters React?
Commenters were split on this. Some agreed it was a ridiculously expensive restaurant cost. “A $10-20 would be acceptable…but $110 to cut a cake…” one posited.
“I would refuse to pay that,” a second added. “H— no.”
However, other commenters were on the restaurant’s side.
“The receipt says you had 11 guests,” a third wrote. “That’s $10 per guest. Based on the prices of the other items your party purchased, you got a bargain. They’re in the business of selling their food and drinks, not handing out the food you brought.”
Similarly, a fourth added, “It’s usually a per person fee. I’ve worked where it was $6 per person. It’s because when people sit for an extra half an hour to eat a cake they brought in the restaurant loses money. You’re taking up time and space in their business.”
Meanwhile, a fifth had a more middle-ground approach: “You are bringing in food to a restaurant. Cake cutting fees are normal in a high end restaurant,” they said. “However they should have told you about the fee. And gave you the option to not do it.”
Restaurant Patrons Charged For Music
Recently, another TikToker went viral after complaining about a similar issue. In the viral TikTok, there was a receipt for a restaurant meal, which cost, in total, $2,372.07. Approximately 5% of that restaurant bill was attributed towards something called the “house fee.”
Consequently, per the receipt, the “house fee” covered costs like security, wage increase, music, health insurance, and taxes. It cost a total of $79.51. While many commenters agreed that this was a surprise price to pay, others were on a similar wavelength to commenters on Justine’s video, arguing that, if they’re dining in a large group and already paying an expensive bill, they shouldn’t be too shocked.
As one commenter put it: “Complaining about how much the fees were on a meal that costs more than most people pay in rent is certainly a choice.”
@justinelovesushi I understand LA prices for $110 for just cutting a cake? Is that crazy or no….. 😳 #losangeles
