Woman Looks Up Into Sky While In Miami. Uh, What Is That?: ‘I Saw It Flying Over Chicago’

A woman traveled to Malibu Beach and stargazed one evening. Then she noticed a trail of small lights and asked TikTok what it was she saw.

In a video with over 3.2 million views, TikToker Miaa (@moremiaarene) posted the clip she took two years prior in Miami, Fla. The sky is pitch black, aside from a moving trail of flickering lights.

On-screen text reads, “I saw this over the beach in Malibu 2 years ago and I still wonder all the time WTF it was.”

Thinking it could be a star formation, she wrote in the caption, “I wish I knew more about astronomy but yea :)”

What Do Viewers Think Is It?

Commenters instantly chimed in to solve the two-year-long mystery of what the TikToker spotted on the beach. Some say they’ve seen it themselves.

Starlink satellites! I saw them while I was tripping on mushrooms back in 2021 I thought the aliens were here,” a viewer shared.

“Star link, I seen this one night and I was shook like 100 percent thought i was seeing ufos,” another wrote.

“Omg I’ll never forget when I was sitting outside and saw it. Scared the shit out of me until someone told me it was Elon Musk’s star link,” a third remarked.

Others shared their more magical explanations for the Starlink light trail.

“My family and I once saw the starlink train on Christmas eve, I told my toddler brother it was Santa because he deserves all the magic he can get,” one said.

A second joked, “Saw this drunk at a party one time, thought the world was ending.”

“The first time I saw it I was at a highschool party in the middle of the woods of northern Colorado,” another shared. “We all lost our minds and thought it was aliens. Picture, a bunch of teenagers running around screaming in the middle of nowhere panicking that these were end times.”

What Is The Starlink Train?

Starlink is a network of satellites launched by SpaceX, a company owned by Elon Musk. The satellites supply internet coverage across the globe, including over 150 countries.

When the satellites launch, they form a “train” that looks like a string of pearls in the night sky. The satellites maintain this coordinated, low orbit for around one to three days after they launch.

After the satellites enter their higher orbit, it’s much harder to spot them.

Starlink has two launch sites in Florida, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Kennedy Space Center, which could explain why the TikToker saw the train formation during her trip to Miami.
