Grubhub’s List Of The Most Popular Dishes Of 2017 Proves Millennials Are Stereotyped For A Reason

Anyone who’s ever lived in a major metropolitan area knows what it’s like to have a love/hate relationship with the endless number of delivery options that come with being in the city. There’s nothing better than knowing you can have basically any dish you could ever desire sent to your apartment in less than an hour, and nothing worse than the damage you can do to your bank account by convincing yourself you’re doing what you can to expand your culinary horizons instead of cooking your own food.

I’ve deleted delivery apps on my phone multiple times in an attempt to master the art of meal planning, but I always end up relapsing at some point. As hard as I try, my skills in the kitchen will never match those of the guys at the taco joint a few blocks away from my place, and I can only lie to my taste buds for so long before they stage an uprising.

I normally tend to gravitate towards restaurants I’ve ordered from before out of sheer laziness, but I might have to start making a conscious effort to branch out if I want to keep up with the times. Grubhub determined the trendiest delivery dishes of 2017 by calculating the rise in the number of orders compared to the previous year, and based on the results, poke might have replaced avocado toast as the reason most millennials can’t afford to buy a house.

Here are the fifteen most popular dishes:

  1. Poke
  2. Soft pretzels
  3. Avocado toast
  4. Chips and queso
  5. Acai bowl
  6. Chicken fried steak
  7. Bean and cheese burrito
  8. Italian sandwich
  9. Chicken dum biryani
  10. Mini corn dogs
  11. California cobb salad
  12. Snow crab legs
  13. Country fried steak
  14. Sirloin steak
  15. Lasagna bolognese

As someone who unconsciously places an order for soft pretzels whenever I spot them on a menu, I’m thrilled to see them finally get the respect they deserve (although they seem slightly out of place compared to the other items in the top five, which— at least in my experience— sum up the typical daily diet of most people in Los Angeles). I would also like to give major props to every single person who decided there was nothing more they needed in life than snow crab legs delivered directly to their door.

I for one can’t wait to tell myself I’m going to start cooking my own food once the new year rolls around before ordering a breakfast sandwich to cure my hangover on the morning of January 1st.
