‘We Thought This Was A Regular Restaurant’: Man Goes To Ruth’s Chris At Niagara Falls. Then He Sees The Price Of A Porterhouse Steak

A couple decided to grab a bite to eat while visiting Niagara Falls and saw a Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. They didn’t realize it’s an upscale restaurant until seeing the shocking menu price for a porterhouse steak.

In a video with over 1 million views, TikToker Kristian Graymond (@kristiangraymond) sits across from his parter at a booth in the restaurant. They have on casual clothes since they didn’t know what they were walking into.

He turned the camera around to show the steakhouse’s menu. He zoomed in on the “porterhouse steak for two,” which costs $160.

“Interesting. We’re locked in now,” he says. Then, he shows that he decided to order the expensive steak after all. On-screen text reads, “Throwback to when we thought this was just a regular restaurant.”

The caption continues, “Once they walked us into a dimly lit hall with velvet curtained booths, we knew we were in for an experience.”

How Much Does A Dinner At Ruth’s Chris Cost?

According to Tasting Table, a steak dinner at Ruth’s Chris will cost around $50 to almost $200 for just the entree. If you add drinks, appetizers, and dessert on top of that, you can expect to spend over $300 for a dinner for two people.

Some steak lovers on the r/steak subreddit shared how to eat for cheaper at Ruth’s Chris.

“They do a deal called the Ruth’s Classics for about $55, which includes a salad to start, then a choice of steak, a side, and a dessert,” one suggested. “I believe the steak choices are a Filet (pretty good size, maybe 8 oz or so) or the Ribeye. My favorite side is the creamed spinach (keto friendly).”

Ruth’s Chris also runs seasonal deals, like its $60 prix fixe 3-course meal earlier this year.

Viewers React To The Couple’s Expensive Misunderstanding

In the comments of the viral video, viewers reacted to the couple’s assumption that Ruth’s Chris was a “regular restaurant.” Furthermore, guests have reported paying steeper prices at the Niagara Falls location due to its location.

“Interesting, I know Ruth’s Chris is a chain so I assumed like chilis lol I’ve never seen one in real life, only on those videos of failed restaurant chains,” one said.

Another questioned, “You don’t google the restaurants before you go and see how many dollar symbols they have? One Google would’ve told you, Ruth Chris isn’t cheap.”

Graymond replied in a comment, “Didn’t know what that was until we got in. Should have realized when the Hilton gave us $50 off our meal.”

A user on TripAdvisor said, “The food is perfectly delicious but VERY over priced. Yes, Ruth’s Chris is normally expensive but the Niagara Falls menu was 20-25% more expensive than the Toronto location – I guess there’s a reason the Niagara Falls menu online doesn’t show prices)!”

Some told Graymond to take off his hat even though he thought the restaurant had a casual dress code. According to Ruth’s Chris’ website, the dress code noted that customers should take off their hats and wear business casual.

“You wore your hat inside of Ruth’s Chris?!?!?” one exclaimed.

However, some said the hat isn’t a big deal. Another viewer wrote, “I didn’t even notice the hat until I opened the comments, people care about others waaaaaaay too much.”

Others said they’ve made the same mistake at the Niagara Falls location.

“Made that mistake many years ago when I didn’t have much money. Got a $50 off coupon with groupon in Niagara Falls,” a viewer wrote.

A second shared, “Lol me and my husband also walked in here once thinking it wasnt a fancy place. once we saw the curtain booths we got scared. said f– it and may as well have a laugh and enjoy our crazy priced dinner.”
