Of Course Nic Cage Has The Perfect Idea For A ‘Face/Off’ Sequel

Back in 2021, it was reported that Adam Wingard, the director of Deathnote and Godzilla vs. Kong, would be helming a sequel to the beloved 1997 action film Face/Off, which famously starred Nicolas Cage and John Travolta.

While it’s still unclear whether or not Cage will be in the film — late last year, it was reported by THR that he was in “discussions” for sequels to both Face/Off and National Treasure — the 59-year-old Academy Award winner certainly has ideas for what he’d like to see.

“I think Face/Off is so unique and there’s a lot to mention there that could be explored, especially dealing with the offspring of the characters. It would be almost like three-dimensional chess, three different layers, with the kids and the parents and everybody trying to like face-off,” Cage recently told E! News.

Cage, who will next be seen starring in the Western film The Old Way before he stars as Dracula in April’s Renfield, also said something similar to Collider:

“I think Face/Off is a sequel that lends itself to a lot of twists and turns and unpredictability. It’s almost like if you factor in the idea of offspring and Castor and Sean having children and these children grow up, then it becomes like three-dimensional chess, and then it’s not just the two, John Travolta and myself, it’s four of us ping-ponging and going at different levels, and it becomes even more complex. I think there’s a lot of fertile ground there. I had maybe one meeting in an office, but I haven’t heard anything since, so I don’t know.”

It’s certainly no coincidence that conversations surrounding sequels to famed Nic Cage films are now popping up more frequently given his recent return to Hollywood’s A-list. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter last year, Cage is reportedly once again “in demand” and has raised his fee to $4 million.

The National Treasure franchise has certainly taken legitimate steps toward making a third film in the series a reality, as the recent Disney+ spin-off show featured a cameo from Justin Bartha’s character Riley Poole, who directly teased the potential plot of the next movie.
