Well, this was udder-ly unexpected.

Earlier this week, a loose cow caused quite a bit of chaos in Philadelphia. The escaped bovine was captured on video running through the northern part of the city with reckless abandon.

The cow was spotted near Broad Street and Erie Avenue, which is a rather populated part of the city.

It is unclear how long the cow was on the run, or how it was captured. However, we know where it came from.

According to Danya Henniger, the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia said that cow escaped from a nearby slaughterhouse. She also confirmed that the animal belonged to Al-Baraka Halal Meat.

The livestock-poultry-meat market is open to the public and sells chicken, duck, rabbit, goat, lamb and, of course, cow. It is located about half of a mile from where the video was taken, so the rogue cow was moo-ving.

Al-Baraka said that it was able to retrieve the cow, which is incredibly unfortunate. After getting loose and going on such an impressive flee, it deserves amnesty. FREE THIS COW!

Nevertheless, the chase is over.

And apparently this isn’t an incredibly uncommon thing in Philly.

According to Animal Care and Control Team spokesperson Sarah Barnett, animals escape all of the time.

“Just last week we got in a pig who clearly escaped the slaughterhouse, he still had a tag on from auction,” Barnett said to BillyPenn. “We also will sometimes see chickens who are found near the live markets who we believe escaped.”

It just goes to show. The next time you are in Philadelphia, you not only have to look out for Eagles fans, but you have to keep your head on a swivel and watch for barreling bovine.
