It’s been three years since Drake dropped his last studio album, but he’s gearing up to put out a new one dubbed Iceman. The release date for that record has been encased in a massive ice sculpture that popped up in Toronto this week, and police had to erect a barricade after fans attempted to destroy it to try to discover when it’s coming out.
It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 15 years since Drake released Thank Me Later, the chart-topping studio debut that cemented his status as a force to be reckoned with on the musical front when it came out in 2010 after the man who’d previously made a name for himself as an actor on Degrassi leveraged a series of mixtapes into a record deal.
The Toronto native has since cemented himself as one of the biggest names in hip-hop, and while his reputation took a bit of a hit after he was handed an L in his beef with Kendrick Lamar in 2024, he still has a very dedicated fanbase that has waited two-and-a-half years for a follow-up to For All the Dogs, which came out at the start of October in 2023.
Drake has been teasing the release of a new project known as Iceman since the summer of 2024, and this month, we were treated to multiple signs that indicated he was preparing to roll it out. That included a controlled explosion linked to a music video that rocked Toronto last Thursday, and he also pulled a stunt with his courtside seats at a Raptors game.
He’s stuck with the frozen theme for the route he’s decided to take to reveal when Iceman is coming out, but law enforcement had to get involved after some of his fans took things a bit too far.
Police in Toronto set up barricades around ice blocks that contain the release date for Drake’s Iceman album after fans took things a bit too far
On Monday, Drake posted a picture of a structure composed of hundreds of ice blocks located at 81 Bond Street in Toronto while informing his followers that the release date for Iceman would be revealed when they melted away.
It didn’t take long for fans to flock to the area, and according to The Toronto Star, some of them declined to heed a sign discouraging people from touching the sculpture.
That includes the ones who attempted to speed up the reveal by targeting it with a sledgehammer as well as a blowtorch fashioned from an aerosol can and a lighter.
A streamer known as “Kishka” was primarily responsible for leading the charge, and he was one of a number of people who were able to climb the sculpture before covering it in salt, continuing the sledgehammer assault, and even lighting a fire on the top of it.

The Star reports those shenanigans came to an end on Monday night, as police put up metal barriers around the sculpture while citing the safety concerns that also led to the fire department showing up due to the blaze that was sparked.
It seems like we’ll have to wait at least a few days to get a glimpse at what’s lurking inside if the ice is left to melt on its own. There’s been some speculation that the sculpture contains a message that simply reads “NOW” as opposed to an actual release date, but only time will tell if that’s the case.
