Bands Put On Shows In LV After Cancelation Of 'When We Were Young'

On Saturday, the first day of the When We Were Young festival was canceled due to “high winds,” leading many to believe that the festival was destined to become the next Fyre Festival.

However, determined to rescue the day for fans who paid to come to the concert, beloved pop-punk bands such as Hawthorne Heights, the All-American Rejects, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and more put on cheap and/or free concerts across Las Vegas in lieu of the canceled When We Were Young performances.

Two of the first to announce were the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Hawthorne Heights. The casino quickly filled up with people hoping to get a glance of the stage, as the show kicked off with Armor for Sleep before sets by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Hawthorne Heights.

After the two-hour show wrapped, many fans looked for the next live show, walking just a half-mile down the road to Soul Belly BBQ, where the All-American Rejects had set a free show. [via Variety]

According to the report from Variety, while the All-American Rejects were only scheduled to perform for an hour, they wound up performing an hour-long set, with frontman Tyson Ritter regularly apologizing to and thanking the fans.

“I’m so sorry about this shit,” Ritter told the crowd. “Regardless of the radio of it all, the MTV of it all, you guys listened and you fuckin’ gave a shit. Every kid that is a little emo, or a little weird or a little queer, or a little f***in’ lost, that listens to this music or listens to all this s**t, and felt seen — we’re those kids too. That’s why we wrote this shit.”

In addition to the aforementioned bands, Anthony Green, Senses Fail, Thursday and Bayside also played a free show at the Sand Dollar, while Bring Me the Horizon and Knocked Loose put on a show at the Palms (although tickets to that cost $80).
