Redbox’s Most-Rented Movies Of All-Time Shows America Loves ‘Hunger Games’

Hunger Games

Lionsgate Films

Can you believe Redbox has been around for 15 years already? That’s longer than Eli Manning’s starting streak. You’ve been renting relatively new, but not quite new releases from outside your local CVS and Walmart for a decade and a half. To celebrate their 15th birthday, Redbox shared the most-rented movies of all-time and it proves that America loves Hunger Games.

Hitting #1 on the list is the original Hunger Games, which debuted on March 12, 2012, the same year that Redbox rolled out. Coming in at #12 is The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It seems Redbox is the place for movies based on young adult dystopian novels because Divergent came in at #14. Also, Redbox users love themselves some comedies such as 21 Jump Street, We’re the Millers (An underrated comedy in my humble opinion), Grown Ups, The Heat, and Identity Thief at #3(?).

Here’s the 15 most-rented movies on Redbox over the last 15 years:

  1. The Hunger Games
  2.  21 Jump Street
  3. Identity Thief
  4. The Avengers (2012)
  5. We’re the Millers
  6. The Heat
  7. Flight
  8. Grown Ups
  9. Just Go With It
  10. The Wolf of Wall Street
  11. Captain Phillips
  12. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
  13. World War Z
  14. Divergent
  15. White House Down

Oddly, there was no Academy Award “Best Picture” films to make the list. Critically acclaimed movies such as Flight, Captain Phillips, and The Wolf of Wall Street did make the list. So Redbox should just market themselves to angst-ridden teens and guys who like quirky comedies.
