Despite the fact that he’s now 85 years old, legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott remains as active and acerbic as ever.

Following the release of the trailer for his new film Napoleon, there have been some history/film nerds that have been critical of Scott’s epic for having historical inaccuracies.

Scott, however, gave the shortest and sweetest of responses to The New Yorker when asked about those critiques: “Get a life.”

Here is the official synopsis for Napoleon, via Sony Pictures:

Napoleon is a spectacle-filled action epic that details the checkered rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix.

Against a stunning backdrop of large-scale filmmaking orchestrated by legendary director Ridley Scott, the film captures Bonaparte’s relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine, showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed.

In addition to the Academy Award-winning Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role of Napoleon, the film also stars Vanessa Kirby as Josephine Bonaparte, Tahar Rahim, Ben Miles, Ludivine Sagnier, Matthew Needham, Youssef Kerkour, Phil Cornwell, Paul Rhys, and more.

Following Napoleon, Scott will then continue work on his long-awaited sequel to his Best Picture-winning film Gladiator, which is set to star Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, May Calamawy, Derek Jacobi, and more.

Napoleon will be released in movie theaters across the United States on Wednesday, November 22 before it begins streaming on AppleTV+ at a later date. Scott has also confirmed that he has a 4+ hour director’s cut of the film that he hopes to release one day.
