Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe has been spending a lot of time in the gym
Russell Crowe is getting ripped. The Oscar-winning actor will next be starring in the upcoming Highlander reboot from John Wick director Chad Stahelski as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, a centuries-old immortal wanderer and skilled fighter who teaches Connor (Henry Cavill) the history of the Immortals.
In a recent post on Instagram, the Academy Award-winning Aussie actor posed alongside Scottish WWE wrestler Drew McIntyre and shared an update on his training for his upcoming film The Last Druid, which comes on the back of Crowe having already gotten in shape for his role in Highlander.

“In the gym with Drew McIntyre. Good lad. Salt of the earth. Just finishing up the shoot on The Last Druid. We have been shooting in Spain since May. It has been two years now since playing Hermann Goering in Nuremberg. The long sweaty days in the beautiful Spanish sunshine have definitely been a great motivator. As I always say, it’s one layer of tissue paper at a time. Consistency is your friend,” Crowe wrote on Instagram.
In addition to Cavill as Connor MacLeod and Crowe as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, Highlander is also set to star Marisa Abela, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Irons, and more.
Alongside Highlander and The Last Druid, Crowe’s upcoming films also include Unabomber and Billion Dollar Spy, both of which are currently in post-production. Unabomber is set to hit Netflix on September 25 and also stars Jacob Tremblay (as Ted Kaczynski), Shailene Woodley, and Annabelle Wallis.
Billion Dollar Spy, based on the 2015 novel of the same name, sees Crowe in the lead role as the titular spy alongside Harry Lawtey, Vera Farmiga, Tony Goldwyn, Willa Fitzgerald, Rufus Sewell, and Justin Theroux.
As for Highlander, while an official release date has not been confirmed, production began back in January, and the first footage from the film — described as “John Wick with swords” — was showcased at CinemaCon in April. At this time, a Summer 2027 release seems most likely.
Crowe is also coming off perhaps his most critically acclaimed performance in years thanks to his work as Hermann Göring in last year’s WWII psychological thriller historical drama film Nuremberg.
