When you’re a server, flirty customers come with the territory. But one restaurant worker was left horrified after making a discovery about the patron.
In the viral video, which has garnered 201,500 views, server Misha Benchikova (@mishagrebenchikova) shared what happened.
“I had a table today, and there was a boy and girl. And the guy asked me if I was married,” she began, “And I said, ‘No, I’m not married.’ I was like, ‘Why? Do I give off married vibes?’ He’s like, ‘No, I’m just asking.’ I was like, ‘OK.'”
According to Benchikova, he then puts his number on the bill. She showed it to her co-worker, who informed her that he has a girlfriend and kids.
“Like, it’s just upsetting, like, he has a whole girl and two kids. And he was with another girl,” the server said. “So I’m guessing they were friends?”
She went on to add that her co-worker “showed me his Facebook, and he has two kids and a whole girl that he has a business with.” Benchikova then shook her head.
The TikToker also confirmed that on the receipt, he put his name, number, and the message: “Since you’re not married.”
BroBible contacted Benchikova via TikTok direct message.
What Did Commenters Say?
One commenter quipped, “Seems like he is looking to upgrade.”
Another joked, “I think he wants to marry you.”
“Maybe it’s his sister and her kids,” a third posited.
While a fourth said, “He’s willing to give it all up for you. Probably.”
A fifth user couldn’t see what the big deal was about, writing, “And? Y’all act like people don’t have open relationships and can pursue other people if they want.”
Outside of these reactions, commenters were less approving.
“Did u tell the girl?” a sixth asked, while a seventh demanded, “POST HIS PICTURE. TEXT HIS WIFE.”
Meanwhile, an eighth remarked, “This is sad, though.”
Should You Give Your Number To Servers?
If you’re a customer, leaving your number on the receipt might be considered an effective flirting technique. However, as one Redditor pointed out on the r/server subreddit, one should always be careful of misinterpreting ‘signals’ they believe they’re getting from their server.
“I have seen multiple posts where someone asks if they should ask a certain worker out beacuse they felt a connection, they were being nice, charming, ect,” they wrote. “As a female who has worked at a theme park, I have had men ask me out daily as I’m sure a lot of other females can relate to. It comes off as incredibly creepy and can often times make us feel uncomfortable. It’s sad how to most people this isn’t obvious and the reason why I felt compelled to make this post. Of course asking someone out doesn’t hurt anyone, but please don’t take me being nice to you as flirting, especially when I am working and this is my job.”
But what about when the shoe is on the other foot? As previously reported by BroBible, there have been cases when servers were worried they’d face the ire of a customer’s partner after getting a little too flirtatious while serving them. When all is said and done, it feels like things would be a lot simpler to not cross those lines at all—especially if you have a girlfriend and children at home.
