Buying a house or renting an apartment used to mean endless visits to different locations.
Back in the day, if you were interested in real estate, you had to schedule a time and drive all the way out there—only to be disappointed that the place looked nothing like its photos.
There’s still a bit of this today. For example, landlords have been repeatedly caught using AI to clean up photos of their dirty, mismanaged apartments.
That said, there’s also some development for the good. Prospective buyers and renters can now take virtual tours of their prospective abodes. When they do, however, they can sometimes be met with a surprise, as one user on TikTok recently shared.
What’s Going On With This House Tour?
In a video with over 600,000 views, TikTok user @softlyhiddengemini explains that she recently had a “jump scare” while doing a virtual tour of a house.
The TikToker says she was clicking through the house, and, in the beginning, everything felt normal. The house was empty, and there was not a person in sight.
“Normally, it’s just this little sticky thing,” she says, meaning that the only thing visible in the tour is the camera on a tripod.
However, as her journey continued, she stepped into the virtual closet. Upon turning around, she was greeted by a woman’s morphed face and head.
“That b—- scared the s— out of me. I jump so hard when I see her,” the TikToker says. “So I’m just looking at the closet like, ‘What the h—? Who the h— is this child?’ I never seen that before.”
Real Estate Surprises
This is an innocent mistake that can happen when capturing photos. Someone walks into the frame, their photo is taken, and before they know it, they’re immortalized looking awkward in a real estate listing.
That said, there are certainly worse and weirder things to be surprised by in a real estate listing. For example, one user was browsing Zillow when they came across a house with a prison in the basement.
As far as strange images are concerned, they are likely to become more common in real estate listings. As more realtors use AI to enhance their property photos, the likelihood of weird errors or glitches making their way through to the public increases.
For example, in February 2026, a Reddit post of a real estate listing went viral. This post contained a photo of a bathroom that had been enhanced by AI—and, consequently, accidentally featured a malformed, human-like creature reaching its arm through a mirror. The listing was later removed.
Commenters Are Freaked Out
In the comments section, users offered their shared surprise at the discovery of the mystery woman.
“Thats your new roommate,” joked a user.
“I would’ve took this as a sign AND IMMEDIATELY went to looking at the next apartment,” added another.
Others said that, in their experience, photography issues like these are common.
“Matterports are so hard to make. you pretty much have to set the camera up and set the timer and run and hide so you aren’t in the frame and then move the camera over three feet and do it all over again until the whole thing is done,” said a commenter. “She probably didn’t want to do another one it takes forever.”
