Walmart Customer Buys Great Value Protein Bar. Then She Eats Half Of It—And Realizes It Has Legs: ‘What Are Those?’

A woman tried a Walmart Great Value protein bar. Then she noticed something unusual baked inside that made her question whether she was really eating “food.”

Morgan Cloutier (@mclou207), an Arbonne Consultant, was behind a cash register when she took a moment to film the bar. The video, which now has more than 234,000 views, shows what appears to be bug shells baked into a Great Value Peanut, Almond & Dark Chocolate Protein Chewy Granola Bar.

“I  just already ate half of this,” she said, while holding up the snack.

Other Unwelcome Additions To Great Value Products

Cloutier isn’t alone in her gross finding. Previously, a Great Value shopper found a small bug inside a smoked paprika container, which made them fear they had to search through their entire spice drawer for creepy crawlers.

An article from The Takeout also advised against purchasing Great Value’s whole pepperoncinis—both because of the product’s overarching quality and because a customer supposedly found a gnat inside a jar.

“There is a gnat or some flying bug in the jar,” the customer shared on Walmart’s review page. Numerous other reviews claimed the pepperoncinis aren’t sealed correctly, which might just explain the issue.

Dried beans, too, have a fair number of complaints regarding extra “crunch.” On Reddit, a customer said that they regularly find sticks and rocks inside the product.

Commenters Lambast The Food Industry

Today’s food industry can make finding bugs inside products seem commonplace. The takeout industry is no exception. One customer, for instance, found a spider inside a Panda Express fortune cookie. Another found a moth inside a Chick-fil-A salad. And another found an unpleasant, lurking insect in a Cava bowl.

Viewers who commented on Cloutier’s video seemed exhausted with the trend.

“I remember when I was growing up, you’d hardly hear about the food going bad or things in the food, and now it’s every single day,” one commenter said.

Another said, “We literally can’t have anything anymore! My God! Everyday a new food has something in it.”

A survey conducted by Gallup found that in 2025, “Seventy-three percent of U.S. adults … trust that the food available in grocery stores is safe to eat.” But “following consecutive declines in the past two measures, a new low of 53% of Americans express confidence in the federal government’s regulation of food safety.”

For many, continued tales of products containing strange horrors can put a damper on a regular appetite. Cloutier’s commenters, too, felt queasy after seeing her post.

“I would immediately throw up and then would never eat granola bars- of any type, ever again,” one viewer said.
