Rob McElhenney, the creator and star of the legendary FX comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has released the first trailer for his new docuseries Welcome to Wrexham. The series follows Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ownership of Wrexham FC, which they purchased back in 2020.

Here’s the official synopsis for the docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, which is set to premiere in August, via FX:

In “Welcome to Wrexham,” Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds learn to run the third oldest professional football club in the world. In 2020, Rob and Ryan teamed up to purchase the fifth tier Red Dragons in the hope of turning Wrexham AFC into an underdog story the whole world can root for, but the concern is that neither have any experience in football or working with each other. From Hollywood to Wales, from the pitch to the locker room, and the front office to the pub, the docuseries will track Rob and Ryan’s crash course in football club ownership and the inextricably connected fates of a team and a town counting on two actors to bring some serious hope and change to a community that could use it.

Back in November 2020, the club was officially purchased by McElhenney and Reynolds through their RR McReynolds Company LLC. As a result of their famous owners, Wrexham became the first non-league team to be featured in the FIFA franchise when they made their debut in FIFA 22.

Founded in 1864, Wrexham A.F.C. competes in the fifth tier of the English football league system (the Premier League, for example, is the first tier). Wrexham is quite historic, too, as they are the oldest club in Wales and the third oldest professional association football team in the world.
