On Sunday, the Zac Brown Band stopped by Fenway Park for its 15th consecutive sold-out show at the home of the Red Sox. Fans who attended the concert ended up getting a very unexpected surprise, as they were treated to what the group has positioned as a historic giveaway after every single person got a free trip on a Margaritaville cruise ship.
It’s been close to 25 years since the Zac Brown Band formed in Atlanta, and the country ensemble spent more than a few years trying to make a name for itself before it managed to do exactly that when its biggest song, “Chicken Fried,” soared to the top of the charts in 2008.
The single helped the group amass a sizable legion of loyal fans, and they’ve continued to pump out music while routinely selling out stadiums and arenas during tours that attract massive droves of their adoring listeners.
That’s the case with Fenway Park, which has sold out every single time they’ve played there since their first show at the baseball mecca in 2014. They broke their own record for consecutive sellouts over the weekend, and they celebrated the occasion with a giveaway that makes Oprah Winfrey look cheap.
More than 37,000 fans at a Zac Brown Band concert at Fenway Park got a free Margaritaville cruise
The 48-year-old musician who serves as the frontman of the band he lends his name to has called Fenway his “favorite place to play in the world,” and in 2018, the Zac Brown Band set a record at the venue when it sold every single ticket up for grabs for the eighth and ninth time in a row.
That number has continued to rise since then, and on Sunday, it climbed to 15 when around 37,000 people gathered for the show that unfolded on the evening of August 2nd.
The group was nearing the end of its second set when Brown strode up to the microphone before performing “Same Boat,” and he prefaced the tune by informing the crowd the band had teamed up with Margaritaville at Sea to give every single person in attendance a free cruise.
According to CBS News, the band had been giving away four trips on that cruise line at each of its shows during its ongoing tour, but it outdid itself with a giveaway that was valued at over $40 million; ticketholders will each get a plus one and can book a trip on “select Margaritaville at Sea sailings over the next year.”
It’s not entirely clear how much each individual ticket is valued at. However, according to TicketData, the get-in price when the concert got underway was sitting at $127, so anyone who pulled the trigger on one on the cheaper side seemed to get a pretty solid deal.
