Zack Snyder Releases Epic New Image Of Darkseid, Ramping Up Further Hype For ‘The Snyder Cut’

HBO Max

One of the biggest reveals of the recent and seismic Snyder Cut news is that this new version of the film will prominently feature Darkseid, who was essentially completely absent in the version of the film that was ultimately released in theaters. As we now (unfortunately) know, the “Whedon Cut” of Justice League featured an awfully-rendered and remarkably forgetful Steppenwolf, one of Darkseid’s minions, as the film’s primary antagonist.

According to The Hollywood Reporter story that detailed how the Snyder Cut came to be, it’s noted that about 25% of Snyder’s original vision made it into the theatrical cut, meaning that the eventual re-release will feel like an entirely different movie. The inclusion of Darkseid — who is arguably the biggest bad guy in the DC Comics universe — will certainly be one of the largest factors in that regard.

“It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie,” Snyder tells The Hollywood Reporter, noting that, to this day, he has not watched the version released in theaters.

“You probably saw one-fourth of what I did,” the director notes, basing his judgment on what has been shared with him of Whedon’s version. [via TheHollywood Reporter]

At this time, the Snyder Cut of Justice League — which will not be undergoing additional re-shoots — is set to hit HBO Max in the year 2021, however, exactly when in 2021 is unknown as this time.
