Comedian and former Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lange was arrested last Sunday after police found cocaine, heroin, and drug paraphernalia in Lange’s possession while he was in his car in the parking garage of his home in Hoboken.

During an interview on WOR’s “Len Berman and Todd Schnitt in the Morning, the 49-year-old who was previously using drugs constantly says he’s been drug free for two weeks since the arrest.

Lange opened up about the dangers of opiates and how they would have dismantled his career if he had become reliant on them sooner. According to the NY Daily News:

“There’s a reason why people get addicted to (heroin). I don’t want kids to hear this, but it feels amazing. That’s why you get addicted to it and then it becomes a living hell after a while, that’s the problem,” Lange said.

That’s all kids want to do nowadays, they want to be a Kardashian,” he explained to the hosts, noting that he tells the younger generation that he would have never been anything if he did drugs when he was starting out.

“That came on later in life when I was on the road. I worked very hard to get where I am, I’m not a Kardashian, I have some talent and these kids … Trump talks about it a lot, every politician has to address it, something’s got to be done at the opiates man,” he said, taking a serious approach.

“Look I’m 49 and it’s still ruining my life,” Lange continued.

Lange is scheduled to appear in a New Jersey court on the three charges.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
