Can you smell what The Rock is cooking? That’s the scent of success. Once again, the People’s Champ has delivered monumental ratings to Saturday Night Live while hosting.
SNL wrapped up its season last weekend with a finale hosted by The Rock featuring musical guests Katey Perry and Migos. Couple those three huge names with the juice that SNL has had since the Presidential Election and you’ve got a recipe for success. At this very moment, Dwayne Johnson is the biggest star in Hollywood. He’s already had HUUUUGE Summer success at the box office with the Baywatch movie and Fate of the Furious. His personal brand is only growing stronger by the day, with millions and millions of fans worldwide paying $$$$ to see any movie he appears in.
Just how big were the numbers? According to UPROXX, for its season finale Saturday Night Live beat EVERY SINGLE SHOW IN PRIMETIME in the 18-49 demo with an estimated 8.272 million viewers. These are the biggest ratings for SNL in years. The last finale to eclipse 8.272 million viewers came back in 2011 when Justin Timberlake hosted with musical guest Lady Gaga, that finale pulled in 9.818 million viewers….Other big news from this season’s finale was writer Colin Jost reportedly hooking up with Scarlett Johansson at the after party.
Heck, my parents even stayed up late for the first time in two decades to watch SNL because they expected fireworks from Katy Perry and The Rock. My dear old mother was disappointed in the episode, claiming that she thought SNL was going to use Katy Perry and The Rock together in multiple skits and not realizing that Katy was nothing more than the musical guest.
