Winter Is Still Coming: Here’s the ‘Game of Thrones’ Video Game You Need To Prepare For It

Don’t have time to keep track of all the latest updates on your favorite video games? Don’t worry, bro! We gotchu. Every week, we’ll be recapping the biggest gaming news, updates, trailers and more in one handy guide.

VIDEO GAME NEWS FOR OCTOBER 31ST

While Telltale has given us two seasons of The Walking Dead and a Wolf Among Us installment, we haven’t heard about its Game of Thrones game in some time. But don’t worry, folks. Winter is still coming this year. Telltale PR Specialist Laura Perusco confirmed as much on Twitter this week, though no specific date was mentioned:

In addition, a new teaser image was released online to promote the game using a quote from A Storm of Swords, the third novel in George R.R. Martin’s series. The quote in question refers to “squids in the wolfswood,” which is no doubt a reference to Greyjoy forces moving in on Stark territory. (If you recall, the kraken is the sigil for House Greyjoy, while the dire wolf is representative of House Stark. Yes, we’re utterly obsessed with Game of Thrones.)

Destiny

On Wednesday, Bungie announced the first expansion coming to one of the most hyped-up games of the year, Destiny — it’s called The Dark Below and it’ll be available on December 9. Now, what does this mean for you, assuming you’re going to get the expansion, because why wouldn’t you?

According to Bungie’s Eric Osborne, it means you can get “new weapons, armor, and gear, experience new story quests and missions, play new cooperative activities with their friends, and add three multiplayer Crucible arenas to their competitive rotation with Skyshock, Pantheon, and The Cauldron,” in addition to “raising Player Light Level potential to 32, increasing Bounty slots from five to 10, and including some fun surprises for everyone who’s playing the game.”

There will also be a new character for you to play called Eris. “Not only does she offer up unique bounties and rewards, she also has a story to tell about The Hive and their evil intentions. She’s also pretty creepy!”

Quantum Break

So far, Quantum Break looks like one badass game. Take the atmosphere and cinematic sequences of a hit TV drama, infuse it into a video game, and that’s what you’ve got. We’ve piqued your interest, right? So, now let’s watch as Sam Lake, creative director of Remedy Entertainment, walks us through 16 minutes (yes, 16!!!) of gameplay.

Quantum Break attempts to blur the lines between games and TV for the ultimate experience, though we’ll be the judges of that when it comes out on Xbox One in 2015. However, we’re already sold on the character’s ability to manipulate time to suit his needs, which will also personalize the storyline in the process.

Final Fantasy Type-0

Is this the darkest Final Fantasy game we’ve ever seen? It sure looks like it from the Final Fantasy Type-0 trailer. In a world where four nations were created around four crystals, a bloody war ensued with the tech-savvy empire invading the magic-wielding civilization. Now, 14 young warriors are left to salvage what’s left of humanity and the four crystals. It’s a very Final Fantasy-esque plot, but it looks like one helluva ride. You can check out the latest trailer below, and you can pre-order the game now before its release on March 17, 2015.

Dying Light

Sorry, PS3 and Xbox 360 users. If you were waiting patiently for this latest zombie extravaganza, you once again are left wanting while the PS4 and Xbox One crowds get it all. Dying Light, said zombie game that sees players trying to survive the night as the dead roam the streets, will now only be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC. According to a Facebook post from the game’s developer, Techland, the “older consoles just couldn’t run the game and stay true to the core vision.” As a result, “the three strongest systems available” will be getting it instead.

While it kinda sucks ass for those of us refraining from purchasing the next generation systems because, you know, we’re on a budget, it does make a lick of sense. This was a game in which 200,000 objects are said to be visible at once, in addition to utilizing special lighting software and player vantage points to enhance the gameplay, and the older systems are, unfortunately, ill-equipped to handle such display.

Payday 2

Just when you thought Payday 2 couldn’t be any cooler, you can now play as Keanu Reeves in the four-player co-op shooter game – or, rather, you can play as Keanu Reeves’s latest movie character, John Wick. The retired hitman thrown back in the game after some idiot kills his puppy has been getting rave reviews on the big screen, and he has now come into the Payday 2 world through this free DLC. And he brings with him a new system called Hitman, which allows you to wield two weapons at once, a Chimano Compact pistol with modification options, a knife and three pairs of sunglasses, the latter just so you can look like a bawla amidst your crime spree.

The Things That Take Us Back

“The things you do in war stay with you forever.” These words haunt our latest look at The Things That Take Us Back, one of the more highly anticipated (and actually worthy of the genre) war games coming this year. In a couple weeks’ time on November 14, you’ll be able to play this game that not only looks creepy and foreboding, but has also had a bunch of early buzz praising its player emersion into a war-torn society. If this isn’t on your radar, make it so.

PS4 Gets YouTube

Hey, PS4 owners. In case you didn’t realize it, PS4 now has the YouTube app, which launched with the 2.0 update and allows users to upload their gameplay directly to YouTube. Pretty cool, huh? Well, we shouldn’t have gotten your hopes up so high. According to reports, the update has been causing a ton of issues with streaming services, including connecting to YouTube and even signing on to the PlayStation Network. The users reporting these issues are relatively small, but still. Don’t be surprised if you run over some of these potholes.

Xbox Studios Is Kaput!

Bye, bye, Xbox Entertainment Studios. You had a good run … though a short one at that. The studio responsible for producing that Halo live-action series (the one we previewed for you last week) has been officially shut down. The last remaining staffers have been laid off, though Microsoft is still committed to premiering Halo: Nightfall in early November. Still, this means that the remaining projects in development are being relocated, some of which are going back to the creators. More information on this can be found at Variety.
