The 2017 Oscars were certainly one of the most memorable in recent history and not just because they royally messed up announcing the correct winner of Best Picture (leading to some truly awesome reactions).

There was also the screw-up during the “In Memoriam” presentation and most importantly, this happened

That is a moment that will be burned into my memory anytime anyone brings up the Academy Awards again for the rest of my life.

And I am not alone in feeling that either, not by a long shot…

Well, it’s now been over a week since Nicole Kidman scarred the psyches of thousands so she finally decided to let us all know just what in the holy hell was going on there.

Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O on Australian radio, they did what ANYONE with a brain would have done: they asked her about the weird AF clapping.

“It was really awkward,” she exclaimed.

“I was like, ‘I wanna clap, I don’t wanna not be clapping’ — that’d be worse, right? Like ‘why isn’t Nicole clapping?’

“So therefore I’m clapping but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not mine — but it was absolutely gorgeous — and I was terrified of damaging it.”

So there you have it. It was because of her rings. Though frankly, I am still leaning towards this as a far more believable explanation…
