There were many moments that made the 2017 Oscars one we will never forget. Most of those moments though, well, they weren’t great.

There was Nicole Kidman clapping liking a creepy AF alien seal.

There was Chrissy Teigen dozing off in the middle of the show.

You also had the Academy screwing up the “In Memoriam” segment by showing the wrong photo of someone.

And then there was the topper when, somehow, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong winner of Best Picture as La La Land.

Reactions to that snafu were AWESOME, of course. From The Rock getting ready to pounce the stage and lay the smack down to Jimmy Kimmel being completely bewildered by what was taking place.

The BEST reaction, however, easily belonged to La La Land star Ryan Gosling who had already taken the stage to accept the award with his co-workers on the film. Which in turn, led to meme after glorious meme.

Naturally, after seeing Gosling’s reaction, many wondered just what exactly was he thinking as he chuckled on stage.

While speaking at the Adobe Summit in Las Vegas on Wednesday he finally fessed up

“What really was happening as I was watching, it was surreal anyway, I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets and I felt like someone had been hurt,” Gosling told Adobe CMO Ann Lewnes. “I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head. And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”

“Truthfully, I was also so thrilled that Moonlight won,” Gosling added on Wednesday. “It’s such a groundbreaking film, made for a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognized.”

How can anyone not love this guy?
